DHT11 | HUMIDITY & TEMPERATURE SENSOR

The DHT11 sensor is one of the most popular sensors used usually in a weather station project. It shows the relative humidity. The DHT11 is also one of the cheapest sensor available for starters. The relative humidity is important to many industries like food and automation.The DHT22 is the more accurate successor to this sensor

Specifications:

  • Operating Voltage: 3.5V to 5.5V
  • Operating current: 0.3mA (measuring) 60uA (standby)
  • Output: Serial data
  • Temperature Range: 0°C to 50°C
  • Humidity Range: 20% to 90%
  • Resolution: Temperature and Humidity both are 16-bit
  • Accuracy: ±1°C and ±1%

How does the sensor work :

DHT 11 uses a resistive humidity measuring element along with an inbuilt  NTC thermistor. The humidity element gives the measure of the amount of water present in the moisture. The NTC gives the ambient temperature needed to calibrate the reading and make the most accurate correction possible for the sensor.

 DHT11 Pin Configuration :

The DHT 11 sensor has 4 pins.

  • VCC
  • GND
  • Signal
  • NC

In the module, However, the NC is not present as you will not need that.

DHT11 Arduino Wiring:

First, Connect the Sensor GND to Arduino GND.

Second,  Connect Sensor Signal to Arduino PIN 7.

Lastly, Connect  Sensor Vcc+ to Arduino +5V.

Connect a 10 k ohm pull-up resistor is coupled with signal and the 5v line to maintain the high signal level.
